Settlement Agreement

This is a legal contract between you and your employer, which you both have to adhere to.  It may involve your employer promising to pay you a sum of money, stop treating you unlawfully, or both.  They are a very useful way of ensuring that employee/employer disputes are concluded without the need for either side to resort to legal action.

You need to have a solicitor to make the settlement agreement valid as the law regulates them and requires that you have independent advice on the terms and their effect, with the effect on your ability to pursue claims in the employment tribunal.

The cost can vary due to the employee’s seniority and the complexity of the arrangement, however, they start from £350 plus VAT, which is paid by the employer.
